“Art gets things out in the open” – Young British Muslim artists tell their stories
Tim Adams, The Guardian, 12 April 2015

After reading this quote, I wanted to take it further and create an image of a Muslim girl in boxing gear and traditional clothing. I thought of Muhammed Ali, someone not only a historical sports figure but also a Muslim, famous for his activism in Islam.

Inspired by artists such as Manal Al-Dowayan, Shirin Neshat, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger and musician M.I.A. I created these posters in the style of old boxing posters. In them, Fatima and Zainab pose around famous quotes from Muhammed Ali in both English and Arabic. The colour and text in boxing posters would make an interesting contrast in Arabic text and feminine items such as jewellery and a hijab.
